Completing a course at university is literally years in the making. It’s a process that takes a lot of determination and, just as importantly, hard work, to successfully finish. Stressful exam periods, assignments that seem to take an eternity to finish, and the infamous group task that ended up being a solo effort… it’s all over! Exciting times lay ahead, but one of the first things that you need to make sure you do is celebrate appropriately – you earned it!
As an official ceremony, you’ll be attending graduation, and will do so in one of the USYD gowns that you can see here at Gowning Street. Why would you choose to buy over rent? A few reasons:

USyd graduation gowns — common questions
What is included in a USyd graduation gown set?
A USyd graduation set from Gowning Street includes a graduation gown, a matching mortarboard (cap) with tassel, and the hood prescribed for your award. The gown is a traditional Cambridge-style, fully fluted academic gown cut from a premium-quality 230GSM polyester weave, and the mortarboard is made from polyester and wool felt with a rigid board, an elasticised fit and a tassel. A full USyd set including the hood is $105; gown-and-cap sets without a hood start from $85.
What size graduation gown and cap should I order for USyd?
Gowns are sized by your height: XS under 158cm, S 159-164cm, M 165-170cm, L 171-177cm and XL 178cm and over.
Mortarboards are sized by head circumference: XS under 46cm, S 47-50cm, M 51-54cm, L 55-59cm and XL over 59cm. If you fall between two sizes, order the larger one. Hoods are one size, so there is no hood measurement to take.
How long does delivery take for USyd graduation regalia?
Orders placed before 12 noon on a weekday leave our warehouse the same day; orders after that leave the next business day. Standard delivery then takes 3-7 business days and express delivery 2-3 business days for most Australian states, with longer transit times to outer regional areas. We ship Australia-wide through Australia Post, and we recommend leaving a buffer before your ceremony during peak graduation periods.
Is it cheaper to buy or hire USyd graduation regalia?
Buying is usually cheaper. Universities typically charge close to $150 to hire a graduation gown for a single ceremony, while a USyd set from Gowning Street starts from $85 — and you keep it afterwards instead of queueing to return it. You can save a further $10 per set when you buy with friends.
Can I return or exchange USyd graduation regalia?
All sales are final and we cannot accept returns for change of mind, because we are a retailer rather than a hire service. If an item arrives defective or incorrect through our error, tell us within 48 hours of receipt and we will replace it or refund it in full, including shipping. If you simply need a different size, submit the exchange form; an exchange costs $10 per item plus shipping, and items must be unworn and in their original packaging with the barcode attached.
